Race bling!

This week, I gathered all of my medals together at once and showed off the accomplishments!  There are a lot of memories there, and also a lot of reminders.  I need to remember how proud I should be of crossing every finish line, and I need to try and get back to finding my happy place in running!  My last few races over 5ks have really  been a mental struggle so I need to remember how to find my joy!

It was a pretty light week as far as running goes.  In fact, aside from some speed work on Wednesday, I didn’t run at all until Sunday’s long run, but I was really  happy to get back to my yoga class on Thursday night.  The long run was a challenge today because it started out very humid, started sprinkling, then the skies opened up for a full downpour. And we weren’t even halfway through the run. And we were running up a giant hill.  It made for a lot of squishy shoes, and that ultimate I AM A BADASS feeling after the run!

Next week’s goal: Three running days!

Out to Eat…

Today, thanks to a backlog of links in my RSS Feed, Booklist introduced me to the work of Sara Becan.  I started at the beginning of the comic and immediately fell in love.  Weight-loss is the primary focus of the comic from the outset, but glancing through some of the archives it looks like that shifts in later years.  However, I already find most posts entirely relate-able and hysterical.  For example (click image to view full size) :

LOVE.  Thanks for this, today, Internet.

Columbus Marathon Training: Week 5

Columbus Marathon Training: Week 5

July 13-July 19

2 mile walk followed by 3.5 mile run!  Getting ready for my trip to Chicago for the Half Marathon, so this week is a cutback.
Tuesday: Spin class!
Wednesday:  2 mile walk with Walking Club
Thursday: 4 mile run  with my Thursday night Turtles!
Saturday:  Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago 5k – it was a SCORCHER.  But I did love enjoying my old lakefront running!

RnR Chicago 5k
RnR Chicago 5k

Sunday:  Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon.  2:49:41.  This is not my best half marathon time by far.  In fact, I was over 20 minutes away from a PR.  However, I kept reminding myself to “find my joy” in running. In Chicago. In the heat.  I was really happy with crossing the finish line – however I spent the rest of the day not feeling great.  Dehydration is no joke, and I want to work on my fueling plan for warm days.  I.E. avoid “runner’s trots”!

Pre-RnR Chicago Half!

Heat is a challenge. It was when I started Couch to 5k, it was when I ran the Bastille Day 8k and there was no water, it was when I ran the Women’s Half Marathon right before I left Chicago, it was a major problem in Nashville (helllllooooo, sunburn!).  So, now I need to continue to learn from these challenging races and figure out what I can do to stay healthy when it’s so warm!

Columbus Marathon Training: Week 4

Columbus Marathon Training: Week 4

July 6-12, 2015

Vacation Day 1 – We went to the zoo!  No formal workout, but got a lot of walking in.  We’ve had a very rainy summer, so this was one of our first nice days and it was great to enjoy it.
Tuesday: Vacation Day 2 – Got my lazy butt back to spin class.  Had a great workout!
Wednesday:  Vacation Day 3 – DOR and a trip to the movies!
Thursday: Vacation Day 4 – 5 miles of speed work!  Went out to dinner and had a too late night.
Friday: Vacation Day 5- Mostly recovering from all the terrible decisions I made on Thursday night.  😦
Saturday:  SATURDAY FUNDAY.  Another beautiful day, we took a walk and then stopped at a few stops along our way home and ended up back at friends’ house enjoying the day.  I started to not feel very well and we went home.  I was awake all night with a sad tummy.  You would think that I would make choices that make me feel better, and at this point, I’d like to say I’ve learned my lesson.
Sunday:  Last Day of Vacation – and I skipped out on my group run.  No sleep, sad tummy, blah blah blah.  I got to grab dinner with some friends in the evening, but my vacation was a lot less active than I had hoped for.

Columbus Marathon Training: Week 3

Columbus Marathon Training: Week 3

June 29-July 05, 2015

DOR – I still had some MAJOR festival recovering to do before going back to work.  UGH!
Tuesday: 9 mile run. Only one way to get back on track – just do it.
Wednesday:  2.5 mile walk with Walking Club (on my birthday!!)
Thursday: 3 mile run  with my Thursday night Turtles!
Friday: 2 mile walk before a day trip to Cincinnati, and then we walked downtown to watch fireworks (about a 5 mile round trip walk)!
Saturday:  DOR kinda, but we walked to the DooDah parade which was about a 3 mile round trip walk!
Sunday:  12.1 miles done – last long run before Rock and Roll Chicago!

Week 3 done!

LOTS of walking this week! I love it when we find chances to walk to our favorite spots instead of driving and fighting for parking.  I celebrated my birthday on Wednesday, but otherwise the week was rather low key.  I’m glad I got my run done, it was a struggle on a hilly course, but I felt pretty ready for Chicago!
